Case Study
The Problem
Vex Therapeutics was doing live on-site inspections before COVID. Regulators and inspectors from the EMA and the FDA, among others, would travel from around the world to the facilities at Vex to ensure quality standards and procedures were in place.
“Because of COVID, we had to figure out a new way to host inspections. We didn’t want travel restrictions to prevent us from production and launch of a product,” said Alex. “We need the means to offer an alternative to in-person travel and give the option to people traveling from different countries a new way to feel confident about traveling from home. I believe that companies should use Avatour now and in the future. Virtual inspections are not going away.”
The Solution
Vex Therapeutics implemented Avatour’s platform to prepare for internal and external regulatory inspections.
“The inspectors gave high praise on the clarity and authenticity of the experience, which makes all the difference. Especially when you need to get approvals to move forward. A great example is if the Russian authorities could not get visas, we can use Avatour to do a live demonstration.” Alex said.
The Benefit

The use of the product facilitates internal and external audits, in facilities as well as sterile environments, while improving remote walk-throughs for marketing and sales purposes. “It’s as good as being in person. It’s not exactly the same, but it gets the job done. The benefits of Avatour are that we’re saving time, increasing productivity, saving on travel costs, and getting approvals completed faster. Also, during in-person walk-through audits, you might miss something that would not be approved, but with a live-recorded feed you can go back and review the audit as often as you’d like,” said Alex.
Technical Aspects
Sterile environments – When an inspection or tour is carried out in person, participants will want to see the layout in these areas. To enter a sterile environment, such as a clean room, bringing participants in is a challenge. Every person entering needs to follow the procedure and wear the appropriate personal protective apparel, which takes time. Additionally, the number of people permitted in these areas may be limited. The facility may have to forgo allowing participants to enter a sterile environment altogether due to these limitations.
Avatour has made this aspect much less challenging. With Avatour, only one person needs to enter and bring in a sanitized Avatour hardware kit. All participants will be able to see the sterile area to get a comprehensive understanding of the facility. The fewer people there are in a clean room, the less likely there will be contamination! Avatour hardware is light and easy to clean using a 70% IP wipe down.
