Harmonious: Antonio Serrano’s One-Man Band

World-renowned Spanish harmonica genius Antonio Serrano presents his highly acclaimed one-man show, “Harmonious”

Considered the greatest harmonica player of his generation, Antonio Serrano was just a child when he first stepped into the international limelight, playing with the great harmonica master Larry Adler. Now a fully-fledged soloist, his new show “Harmonious” is simply unforgettable. With the ease of a true musical genius, you’ll watch the one-man band wield his harmonica and release carefully orchestrated loops from his pedals.

Effortlessly crisscrossing genres that range from classical, jazz, blues, and pop to world music and flamenco, Antonio plays an eclectic repertoire of his own making. Unique arrangements of melodies from film themes to folk melodies, from Bach to Bacharach, are included with a plethora of his original compositions. With each song preluded by the story behind its creation, the maestro invites you to get a closer look into his life as he treats you to a memorable night in a personal and intimate setting.

 SHOW

The show runs for 75 minutes with no break. Antonio gives an introduction before every piece, as each one tells a story about his life. He plays a selection of harmonicas throughout the show, mostly the chromatic harmonica–his specialty–but also incorporating traditional blues harmonicas and the rarely seen and deeper sounding bass harmonica.

Some of the pieces are performed solely on the harmonica, while others are played with Serrano on the piano using one hand and the harmonica with the other. You’ll even see him sing a blues piece while playing the harmonica and piano simultaneously.

Every work is very different from the next. The repertoire consists of some original compositions as well as songs from other composers. Performances include adaptations of the following tunes: “Cinema Paradiso,” by A. Morricone; “Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head,” by Hal David and Burt Bacharach; and “Summertime.”
